With the Lovely Bozenka
I was very blessed to attend Bozenka’s All-in-One workshop. She’s won many titles and has danced for celebrities including Sean Connery, Donald Trump, Hugh Hefner, Madonna, Alejandro Sanz and Enrique Iglesias amongst others. She also choreographed for my all time favorite Shakira!
We worked with veils and sagats (finger cymbals) at the same time which was perfect as is a challenge I’m facing in my performance for the Miss Belly Dance South Africa this coming Sunday.
I found her to have a very cute playful style which I really like. Her poses and steps are a wonderful mixture of graceful and flirtatious. I have to say as well she has beautiful arm structure and lovely hands. I think that’s one of the most important but understated parts of belly dancing.
She explained how you have to let your hands ‘breathe’ which is a good word to describe the small movements they make to keep you from looking to robotic and which gives your dance personality rather than all exacting the same standard steps the same way.
I like the way she had good classroom control and even though sometimes forgot the order of her choreography at the beginning I found that greatly endearing as my lovely girls from Radioactive can attest I did that to them constantly, especially before I learned to choreograph to 8 beats!
Angela of Belly Dance Goddesses did a wonderful job of organising everything which is a huge job and involves countless details. It was great meeting so many wonderful ladies passionate about Belly Dancing definitely reminds you why it’s such a beautifiul and unique art.
