Some of my very talented friends are just getting into making belly dance costumes. It’s no easy feat! It’s something you have so much creative license for and is an amazing project to get into!

So, just to help out, I thought I’d post a few tips to remember when making your very own belly dance costume.

Tip 1: You know something’s wrong when it looks as if you’re wearing a giant g-string as part of your costume.

Tip 2: In general, avoid using lizards or tadpoles as design inspiration.

Tip 3: Avoid using loin cloth patterns at all times to avoid disturbing images.

Tip 4: Avoid using costume pieces with the word ‘lunch’ or ‘vegetables’ on it.

Happy Costume Making!
